About Desiree Baolian Qin
Dr. Desiree Baolian Qin is a faculty member in the department of Human Development and Family Studies at Michigan State University. Most of her academic writing has focused on mental health concerns and struggles in parent-child relations in Asian (American) families. She enjoys yoga, walking their dog Pepper, and traveling with her family. Baolian started meditation three years ago after her therapist gave her a copy of Thich Nhat Hanh’s book Miracle of Mindfulness. In her moments of angst, anxiety, and suffering, she found that reading books and poetry from Mary Oliver, Pema Chodron, Gibran, Qingxuan Lin, Paulo Koelho, Peace Pilgrim, Zhuang Zi, and many others helped her a lot. She wants to continue to read, study Zen, and dedicate more time in her life to writing, in Chinese and English, to help herself and others heal a little bit.
